About BNR Philly
Black Nurses. Leaders. Change-Makers
Black Nurses Rock Philadelphia is a professional community of Black nurses committed to excellence, advocacy, and empowerment. Our mission is to support Black nurses in their personal and professional growth, while addressing healthcare disparities in underserved communities across Philadelphia.
We provide mentorship, networking opportunities, continuing education, and community outreach initiatives. Through workshops, health events, and advocacy efforts, we aim to elevate the nursing profession, celebrate Black excellence in healthcare, and create lasting positive change in the communities we serve.
At Black Nurses Rock Philadelphia, we believe in the power of connection, collaboration, and leadership—both at the bedside and beyond. Together, we are transforming healthcare, one nurse at a time.

Our Story
Black Nurses Rock Philadelphia was established in March 2022 by four dedicated Black nurses: Daneen Smith, Mary Sizer, Aleshia Harrison, and Pam Davis. Brought together through their shared passion for nursing, they recognized the urgent need to address gaps in care for underserved communities in Philadelphia. Their vision was to create a safe and empowering space for Black nurses to connect, uplift, and support one another, while also extending their impact beyond the bedside into the community. Inspired by the values of the national Black Nurses Rock organization, they laid the foundation for the Philadelphia Chapter
Our Mission
Black Nurses Rock Philly Chapter is dedicated to uplifting and empowering Black nurses within the community. We strive to provide support, educational resources, and networking opportunities, while fostering leadership and advocacy in healthcare. Our initiatives aim to address disparities in health and education as we promote the vital contributions of Black nurses across all aspects of healthcare. Together, we work to create a stronger, more inclusive healthcare environment while enhancing professional growth for our members and improving health outcomes in our communities.
